Sandwich Sunday

How do you see your faith working in your daily life?  How do you “do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God?”  (Micah 6:8)   As Christ served others, we are called to do the same.  10,000 homeless individuals are on the streets of Houston on any given night according to Cathedral Health and Outreach Ministries.  What can we do to help?  We can make small steps to show these individuals that they are important and deserve the essentials to life that we often take for granted.  Through our efforts we can make a difference in these people’s lives, show love through our actions, and play a role in the global effort to end hunger and homelessness.  To put it simply, we are creating lunches for folks without homes and with everyone’s help, we can provide for many.

What is needed:

Sandwich supplies such as bread, peanut butter, jelly, lunch meat, etc.

Chips, crackers, nuts, raisins, etc.

sweet snacks such as cookies, granola bars

fresh fruit

bottled water

ziploc baggies for the food supplies plastic bags to bundle each lunch other supplies that are great as well: toiletries like – travel shampoo, soap, toothpaste, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, deodorant, socks etc.

If there is anything else that you are thinking of, I’m sure we can make use of it.  Please don’t let this list limit you.

On the first Sunday of every month we will make the sack lunches and take them into downtown Houston to pass them out to people in need of our help.  I would love for the junior and senior high Crossroads class to put together the bags during our class to really bring home the ideas in our Taking Root studies this year.

If you want to help make deliveries or in any other way or have any ideas, suggestions, etc., please let me know. The easiest way to contact me is through e-mail.

Thanks,
