Mayor White Declares 10/26/08 Holy Comforter Lutheran Church & School Day

November 3rd, 2008

Reformation  Sunday October 26th, 2008 will be remembered as a day in Holy Comforter Lutheran Church  (HCLC) history.  Not only did the church celebrate one of the holiest  days of the Lutheran church year, the church also celebrated its 40th  anniversary.  The day began with two beautiful services, led by Pastor Barbara Bartling.  Both services included all of the church’s choirs,  the Gloria Dei Choir and Voices of Praise, the hand-bell groups, Bells of  Praise and the Glory Ringers.  The second service was standing-room only. Kingwood church congregation commemorates 40 year anniversary by: Robert Kleeman

Community members will mark milestone with late October fiesta

The Holy Comforter Lutheran Church began in a trailer 40 years ago.

That’s where the congregation first convened in 1968. Members met at the trailer and sometimes at their houses for weekly worship. The now 550-member Kingwood church, the first in the area, will celebrate its mile marker anniversary with an Oct. 26 party.

Church volunteer Dawna Kaleda said she first attended Holy Comforter in 1971 with her mother, a year before the church’s permanent campus broke ground. Less than 50 people attended services then, she said.

Pastor Barb Bartling said she views the church as a place to find purpose. MORE>
