The Purpose of our Youth & Family Ministry is to serve God by serving others.  We do this through intentional fellowship, worship, and service weekly to build up the body of Christ.

At Holy Comforter we believe that Confirmation is a vital part of a faith development.  Jesus required commitment when calling his disciples.  That is why our staff and volunteers take your teens faith formation very seriously, and are very committed to every student that walks through our doors.  We know that this journey to faith is one of many steps that shapes and molds your son’s or daughter’s life.  We are very mindful of Jesus’ core values that He modeled for us many years ago; and we are very committed to shaping and molding the lives of all of our youth .

Program Focus

Our Confirmation program focuses  Old and New Testemant,  The Life of Martin Luther, Small Cathecism, Mission/Service,  and Worship.  We also have incorporated a time for small group fellowship events.  Our focus is relational ministry students and trusted adults.

Fees

Confirmation Fee:   Annual of $30.00 per person, per semester which includes curriculum and supplies plus WOW dinner each week.

Time Commitment

Wednesday Night’s starting in  September  and ending in May

6:00 Dinner,  6:30 -7:30 Education/Service/Fellowship

During Advent and Lent there is Worship at 7:30

Sunday Morning worship at 8:15am or 11am and Sunday School at 9:30am

Sunday School

We combine our junior and senior high youth in Sunday School. The older youth act as peer ministers to their younger peers.  New this year we have implemented the Taking Root - Hunger Causes, Hunger Hopes. See the World in a Whole New Way.

After the meal at 6:00 PM, Jr High – goes to confirmation,
High School meets in the upper room for “It”)

Worship, Word & Witness Wednesdays  is in full swing for ALL AGES! Dinner @ 6pm,
fellowship and devotions in Luther Hall. Then we split into groups at 6:30 for learning, art, music, fellowship & service.

• K-2nd and 3rd-5th – have bible study, service projects, activities and music (which becomes our Children’s Choir) for a few offerings a year in Sun. morning worship.
  
• Junior High – (Confirmation) meets for Divine Drama in Whittenberg.
• High School – meets for “It” in the Upper Room for “Nooma”, activities & service projects.
  
• Adult Bible Study – “Crossways” with Pastor Barb in the Sanctuary
  

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17.  Plan on beginning your Lenten journey by attending a worship service at 12:00 noon  followed by a simple soup lunch or following WOW soup supper at 6:00pm, A special Transfiguration Event at 7:00 and the worship service at 7:30pm.

VALENTINES BAG SERVICE PROJECT – WOW Elementary kids created cards & decorated 70 Bags for Houston children undergoing Cancer treatment & other  life-threatening illnesses at Texas Medical Center institutions. Thanks so much for your donations for this project.

Wed. Feb. 17th – TRANSFIGURATION EVENT – This special event will begin as intergenerational and then teams will break into groups. Elementary students will not attend music on this day.

Feb. 26th – 27th – 30 HOUR FAMINE
This event is for all 6th – 12th grade students. Talk to Colleen or Chris for details.

Wed. March 24th @ 6:30 PM – “FAITH TOGETHER” – Chris Ray will lead a prayer workshop to engage parents in prayer with their children at church so they can go home and pray together!

Wed. April 22nd – EARTH DAY MEAL & CELEBRATION – HCLC Green Ministry will provide the WOW meal in honor of Earth day. Elementary Celebration to follow. Talk to Michele Dykstra or Christy Janacek for details.
