First Place 4 Health – This is a program that focuses on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of each person. A weekly Bible study is part of the program. We offer two classes – one on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am and one on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 am. If you would like more information about this class, please contact Beth Moseman for more details.  This program is a Christ-centered overall health program. Persons with diabetes or high blood pressure, etc. can benefit.  This program helps you develop a healthy lifestyle including all aspects of your life—physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental with a Bible study as well.

News & Updates

The next First Place 4 Health session will begin on September 1 and 5.

Second Family Care Team - is in need of more volunteers to provide companionship and transportation to those in need. Contact Beth Moseman to participate. The Second Family Care Team will meet on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in the narthex area of the church.

The Gathering Place -  ”Quilts” is the theme for the September Gathering Place to be held on Friday, September 3, 2010. If you have a quilt to show, bring it.  This ministry is free of charge and is available to the entire Kingwood/Humble area.  Interfaith CarePartners works in partnership with Holy Comforter to provide The Gathering Place which meets the first Friday of each month to provide fun, fellowship, food, etc. for our care partners who have mild to moderate disabilities such as dementia, stroke, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.  The purpose is 1)to provide a time for care partners to interact with other people through the activities we  offer and 2)to give their care giver(s) a few hours of respite.  Please let us know if you are aware of someone that could benefit from The Gathering Place.

Co-leaders of The Gathering Place are Pam MacNaughton and Beth Moseman.  Sign up sheets are in the narthex if you’d like to volunteer to help the first Friday of each month.  We have several male care partners so we are especially in need of more men volunteers.

Besides more volunteers at The Gathering Place we also need drivers to help transport our care partners to and from The Gathering Place.  If you would be able to support our ministry in this capacity please contact Beth Moseman via e-mail.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.  Transportation is one of the greatest needs of many of our care partners.

Another aspect to The Gathering Place is being encouraged.  It’s called “Gathering On The Go.”  This is an opportunity for those who wish to support The Gathering Place but are not available on the first Friday of each month.  We are planning to make a home visit to those care partners who are unable to attend The Gathering Place that month.  They may miss because of illness, doctor appointments, or other conflicts.  We would make a home visit and bring them items from The Gathering Place.  You can make your visit(s) any time during the rest of that month at your convenience.  If you would be interested in this please sign up in the narthex or contact Pam or Beth.

HOLY COMFORTERS (PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY) – Yes, we are still knitting, we are still crocheting, and we are still blessing prayer shawls to encircle those shoulders and bodies that seek comfort from both a warm cover and a prayer.  There have been so many different prayer shawls made by very creative people it’s amazing.  Each one is truly unique.

The Holy Comforters (Prayer Shawl Ministry) meets the third Tuesday of every month in the narthex at 7 pm  .  Anyone interested in knitting, crocheting, quilting, etc. is invited to join us.  Men and women are both welcome.

If you would like a prayer shawl for yourself or a friend or relative please let anyone in our group know.  Our leader is Judy Hunt.   Monetary donations will be accepted from those who want to contribute to our efforts but can’t or don’t have time to actually make a prayer shawl.  And, of course, any yarn you may have lying around will be put to good use.

PRAISE WALK – Everyone needs exercise for good health and the Praise Walkers welcome you to come join us any time.   Praise Walk uses various types of exercise with walking at church or outside being the main one.  We also use videos for variety.  We meet Monday through Friday from 8 – 9 am   Anyone wishing to join us is asked to call Beth Moseman or Lynette Schmit for questions.
