ELCA Info
Holy Comforter Lutheran Church is located at 1901 Woodland Hills Drive in Kingwood, Texas. We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America resulted from a union of three North American Lutheran church bodies: The American Lutheran Church, the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches and the Lutheran Church in America. The three churches agreed to unite in 1982. They formed a 70-member Commission for a New Lutheran Church, which planned the merger. The plan was approved by church conventions in 1986, and the ELCA constituting convention was held April 30-May 3, 1987, with the church actually beginning operations on January 1, 1988. There are currently some 4,774,203 Baptized Members of the ELCA within 10,470 congregations. The fundamental teaching of the ELCA is that we are justified by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1-2).
The ELCA is a community of faith that shares a passion for making positive changes in the world. Our faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service, and education, we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God’s grace in our lives. Learn more about What We Believe.
We also work hard to put our faith into action. In today’s complex world, we strive to make a difference in practical, realistic ways.
With nearly 10,500 congregations across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and nearly five million members—we welcome you to experience this church right in your community. Explore the ELCA, and help us celebrate our gift of faith—with action.
